Joseph W. Bell

Joe is a former senior partner in the firm and is currently semi-retired.  In a career spanning more than thirty years, Joe has represented both plaintiffs and defendants at the trial and appellate levels.  Since 2007, Joe’s practice has focused primarily on class action defense. He has been lead counsel for a major energy company in a number of such matters.  Earlier in his career, Joe represented plaintiffs in antitrust and securities fraud class actions.  He has also represented direct action plaintiffs, primarily in antitrust litigation, and has been involved in many of the firm’s largest cases in this area.

Representative Matters

Class Action Defense

Represented a major energy company in a large multi-district class action case arising under the consumer protection laws of numerous states (In re Motor Fuel Temperature Sales Practices Litigation).

Represented a Chinese manufacturer of Vitamin C in an antitrust class action involving alleged price fixing (In re Vitamin C Antitrust Litigation).

Antitrust and Unfair Competition

Represented a major food manufacturer as a plaintiff in antitrust litigation involving price fixing in the vitamins industry (In re Vitamins Antitrust Litigation).

Represented three large corporate clients as plaintiffs in antitrust litigation alleging price fixing of linerboard, a component of corrugated containers (In re Linerboard Antitrust Litigation).

Represented a diversified manufacturing company as a plaintiff in antitrust litigation alleging price fixing in the rubber industry (In re Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) Antitrust Litigation).

Served as class counsel in an antitrust case involving alleged price fixing of sand and gravel (Williams v. Kaiser Sand & Gravel Co., Inc.).

Securities Fraud

Served as class counsel in a case alleging securities fraud in connection with the sale of limited partnership interests (Tonnemacher v. Sasak).

Served as class counsel in a case alleging securities fraud in connection with the sale of industrial revenue bonds (United Bank of Arizona v. Sun Mesa Corp.).
