"Rest of World" (Re)Insurance: Coverage and Recovery Matters in Latin America, China and Other Jurisdictions

Para ver esta página en Español, por favor haga clic aquí.

Zelle’s London office routinely acts for (re)insurers in coverage disputes and subrogation / recovery matters outside England & Wales and the United States.  We have acted for clients in Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, China, Israel, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Spain, Turkey, Trinidad, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.  We work in a number of interesting jurisdictions but have particular experience in Latin America and China.

Our work ranges from supervising adjustments to coverage and measurement advice to litigation / arbitration.  We often focus on first-party disputes – property, energy, power, construction and engineering – but we also have experience in third-party and CGL matters. We regularly handle complex business interruption matters.

Our ROW team is uniquely experienced and has handled claims on six continents. Cases are led by senior, multi-lingual lawyers licensed / qualified in Texas, California, Spain, England & Wales and China. We have developed a network of lawyers around the world with whom we partner on a case-by-case basis.  We rely on trusted local attorneys to handle cases within their jurisdictions. Zelle’s niche legal experience, trusted brand, and market relationships allow us to add significant value to matters: we help sensibly manage foreign disputes for international (re)insurance markets by monitoring the handling of the claim by local adjusters, experts, and lawyers, ensuring that the best factual, technical, legal, and commercial arguments are explored, and constructively reported to clients.

LIABILITY—GERMAN-SPEAKING COUNTRIES [Hier gelangen Sie zur deutschen Version]

German speakers for German-language cases

German-speaking insureds often feel more comfortable and better able to explain their products and their story when speaking in their mother tongue.  Sometimes there are legal concepts that are alien to German-speaking countries (such as the US and English forms of discovery and disclosure), or perhaps, tactical points and witness evidence.  We have seen a benefit in offering to insurers with German-speaking insureds access to lawyers who are native or fluent German speakers, and who have first-hand knowledge of and experience of the practice and culture of the German-speaking business world.  Zelle has linked up its New York and London offices who now offer experienced liability attorneys with German-language proficiency assistance to meet your insured’s needs.

Zelle attorney at law, Isabella Stankowski-Booker, based in our New York office, and Darren Thompson in our London office are both seasoned lawyers with a background in liability and property defence and subrogation, and fluent in German.
