Jonathan R. MacBride

Since 1999, Jon’s practice has focused on the representation of domestic and international insurance and reinsurance markets in coverage disputes, claim evaluations, and recovery efforts arising out of residential, commercial and industrial losses throughout the United States. These include fire, explosion, collapse, construction defect, equipment failure, design error, and natural catastrophe.

His practice includes evaluation of coverage in All-Risk, Builder’s Risk, Homeowners, Boiler and Machinery, Energy, Contingency and Product Recall/Contamination claims. Jon is also retained to defend domestic and international insurance and reinsurance markets in the defense of coverage litigation and extra-contractual claims, including bad faith. He has also been retained to investigate and defend fraudulent insurance claims.

Jon served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office from 1995-1999. While there he tried hundreds of cases to verdict. In his final assignment he was one of two prosecutors assigned to an elite unit tasked with investigating and prosecuting large scale auto theft rings.

Jon currently serves as the Chair of the American Bar Association, Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, Property Insurance Law Committee.

Representative Matters

Insurance Coverage

Represented property carrier in litigation brought by a public adjuster who alleged tortious interference with its contract with a large municipality arising from a Hurricane Ike loss.

Represented several property carriers in the excess layers of a layered insurance program that provided $250 million in coverage to a consortium of five school districts in South Central Florida in evaluating claims arising out of Hurricane Charley.

Represented insurance market in coverage dispute arising from alleged cracking in the liner of a tank forming part of an ammonia processing facility. As a result of the investigation into the cause of the loss, insured withdrew its $10 Million claim.

Represented property carrier in an investigation of potential fraud in a claim arising from alleged damage to laboratory equipment. Insured ultimately accepted civil penalties in excess of $400,000 for insurance fraud.


Represented a reinsurer in $75 million reinsurance arbitration arising from application of an exclusion for catastrophe natural in France.
