How Do I Access Zelle®?

Looking for the Zelle app? Start with your bank or credit union.

If you've searched for “Zelle app,” “Zelle app download,” or “download Zelle,” you're probably looking for the fastest way to start using Zelle.

The first thing to know is that there is not a standalone Zelle app. Instead, you can access Zelle directly through a participating bank or credit union that you already use for everyday banking.

Whether you're sending money to a friend, paying someone back, or receiving money from someone you know and trust, getting started typically begins inside your financial institution's mobile banking app or online banking experience.

In this guide, we'll explain how to access Zelle, where to find it in your banking experience, and what to do if you can't locate it.

How do I access Zelle® through my banking app?

If your bank or credit union offers you the ability to send and receive money with Zelle, you can typically access it from your existing mobile banking app or online banking, so getting started is simple.

Step 1: Open your bank or credit union's app or online banking experience

Sign in using your existing banking credentials.

Step 2: Look for Zelle®

After signing in, look for Zelle within your banking experience. Depending on your financial institution, it may be located under sections such as:

  • Send Money
  • Pay & Transfer
  • Payments
  • Transfers
  • Move Money

Step 3: Enroll if prompted

The first time you use Zelle, you may be asked to enroll using an eligible U.S. mobile number or email address. Follow your financial institution's enrollment instructions.

Step 4: Send or receive money

Once enrolled, you can select using their enrolled U.S. mobile number or email address, or Zelle tag, and follow your bank or credit union's instructions to send or receive money.

Before sending money, always confirm that you're paying the right person or business and review the details carefully before sending.

Do I need a banking app to use Zelle®?

There is not a standalone Zelle app. Instead, you can access Zelle directly through participating banks or credit unions you already use. All participating banks and credit unions are required to offer Zelle through their app experience. Some may offer it through their online experience as well.

How can I find out whether my bank or credit union offers Zelle®?

Zelle is available through over 2,400 participating banks and credit unions.

The easiest way to see whether your financial institution offers Zelle is to use the Find Your Bank or Credit Union search tool on the Zelle website.

If your financial institution participates, you'll find instructions for getting started through their banking experience.

How do I access Zelle® on iPhone or Android?

Whether you use an iPhone or Android device, the process is similar since there is no separate Zelle app.

Start by opening your bank or credit union’s official mobile banking app. If you don’t yet have a banking app installed, you can download it on the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Then, simply look for sending or receiving with Zelle after signing into your banking app.

What if I can’t find Zelle® in my banking app?

If you don't see the ability to use Zelle, there are a few things to check.

  • Confirm that your bank or credit union offers Zelle.
  • Update your mobile banking app to the latest version.
  • Search within your banking app for “Zelle,” “Send Money,” “Transfers,” “Pay & Transfer,” or “Move Money.”
  • Check your online banking experience if you don't see Zelle in the mobile app.
  • Make sure you're signed into the correct account.
  • Contact your bank or credit union if you still can't locate Zelle.

Because each financial institution manages its own banking experience, customer support from your bank or credit union is the best resource for account-specific questions.

What if my bank or credit union doesn’t offer Zelle®?

If your financial institution doesn't currently offer Zelle, you may not be able to access Zelle through that institution.

Because there is not a standalone Zelle app, you should check the Find Your Bank or Credit Union page to see whether another financial institution you use offers Zelle or contact your bank or credit union to ask about availability.

What do I need to enroll with Zelle®?

Enrollment requirements may vary slightly by financial institution, but you'll generally need:

  • An account with a participating bank or credit union
  • Access to that institution's mobile banking app or online banking
  • An eligible U.S. mobile number or email address
  • Agreement to any enrollment prompts and terms provided by your financial institution

How do I receive money with Zelle®?

If someone sends you money using the U.S. mobile number or email address you've enrolled with Zelle, the money is typically sent to the bank account associated with that enrollment.

If you're not yet enrolled, you may receive instructions from your financial institution on how to complete enrollment.

Availability and timing can vary by participating financial institution.

Use Zelle® safely when sending money

Using Zelle responsibly starts with knowing who you're paying.

Keep these best practices in mind:

  • Only send money to people and businesses you know and trust.
  • Confirm the recipient's enrolled U.S. mobile number or email address before sending.
  • Review payment details carefully before confirming.
  • Contact your bank or credit union if something doesn't look right.

Think of Zelle payments like cash. It's important to be sure you're sending money to the right recipient. With Zelle money moves into an enrolled recipient’s account within minutes and cannot be reversed.
